Jonathan, Nick (cousin) and Thomas ~ before the parade began

Baba (Great Grandma) and Thomas ~ just before he fell asleep!

We just got home from our 4th of July festivities. We went to the Parma Parade this morning ~ it didn't take my boys very long to get the hang of running after the candy thrown by the parade participants.
We came home, ate some lunch and rested a bit before heading over to my Mom' for a barbecue. Since our city (parma) didn't have their annual 4th of July fireworks display my brother and a few of his friends went and bought a few of our own to set off. Shortly after dinner they started and 2hrs later they were still going strong. Thomas had fallen asleep with my Grandma on the porch swing so I knew it was time to go home. We packed up and headed home (a 4minute trip).

The boys got washed up and they put their pj's on and were headed to bed. While I was helping Thomas put his pajamas on Jonathan was talking about how it was going to be hard for him to fall asleep with all the fireworks being set off in our neighborhood (some of them are VERY loud). I put them each in bed, they said their prayers and I gave them kisses goodnight.

I was in the kitchen cleaning up and Thomas walked out of his room and stood next to me. I asked him (he can lip read a bit) what he needed ~ he just stood there looking at me and than looking out the window (you could see some of the fireworks from the kitchen window and I'm sure it was lighting his room up a bit, too). I asked him again ~ what was wrong and he looked up at me and said "I wanna hear,
I wanna hear firwerks" (fireworks)

I hadn't put his processors in the dry n store yet so I grabbed one and put it back on and asked him "you want to hear the booms of the fireworks? and he answered "yes, Mom" ~ "I see em ~I wanna hear em".

So he is sleeping now with one processor on ~ he wanted both but I convinced him that he would be more comfortable with just one on ~ his other ear is reserved for the pillow.
I just went in to check on him ...He is still awake. I asked him how he was doing ~ he said "I yike(like) it, Mom".

That totally brought tears to my eyes... how sweet, and amazing that the CI gives our kids a chance to hear...

Hello,
I found your blog off CI Circle. I was wondering if I can add you to my blog. Gavin hears a who. Feel free to add my blog to yours if you would like. It is so fun to meet others in the same boat as us! My son Gavin got his first CI last year in August. He had surgery this week on wednesday for his second. He doesn't get turn on til August 17th. Did you guys have to take off the first CI for a couple of hours a day, so Thomas could learn to listen with the new one. Some professionals are telling me this? What worked for you guys? I love this post. I've heard of teenagers going to bed with one implant on. Ears don't have lids. Just eyes!lol! That is precious! Hopefully you have rechargable batteries. Or your son is probably going through batteries pretty quick. Gavin can get about 3days with the 3 675's batteries, but the rechargable batteries a day and a half. Gavin still takes naps daily for a couple of hours. That's why I think we can go a little futher than some. Gavin has LVA. That is why He is deaf.
I look forward to hearing from you.
