Thomas had his Mapping appointment last week. His audiologist is great...very patient and listens to my every concern.
I mentioned to her that Thomas has been periodically saying "what" in response to some of my questions or in conversation. I had checked both ears with the monitor earphones and everything sounded fine. I was glad we had the mapping coming up.
Our mapping sessions have changed since he first got implanted. He is patient and since he loves to hear he realizes that by really paying attention and listening his ears will work better. He did phenomenally! After mapping both ears we moved to the sound booth. Thomas loves the little machine in the sound booth that gives out M&M's every time you hear a sound and press the "button". It still AMAZES me when the audi's voice gets quieter and softer and Thomas continues to press the "button". At one point he pushed the button and he looked over at me and I gave him a half smile (I didn't hear anything). Mapping session was over and I asked the audi what level Thomas was hearing at. She said she got a response at 5db's. WHAT? I didn't hear the noise at 5db's and Thomas did! AMAZING!
A few days later we were in the drive thru at McDonald's. I was giving my order and the cashier said something back to me which I didn't hear nor understand ...I whispered "What?" and from the middle seat of our van with his window shut I hear Thomas say "Mom, say Boy" I quietly responded to the cashier "Boy" and she said "Thank you...please pull around". Again from the back seat I hear "see Mom, I told you. She wanted to know if the kids meal was for a boy or a girl".
Cochlear Implants never cease to amaze me! I am so thankful for Thomas and his special ears. As well as his magnificent team ~ his surgeon, audiologist and speech therapist.

Sounds like he's doing great with his implants! I always avoid fastfood drive-thrus, I'm always afraid I'm just not going to understand what is being said, so I just go inside, every time. If I ever get my implant, maybe that would change.
Hope your son continues to do awesome!
